A successor to Napoleon Bonaparte appears in European elections

He introduces himself on his Instagram account as “Prince Joachim Murat, Prince of Ponte Corvo”. A great-great-nephew of Napoleon I, Joachim Murat, will be running in the European elections on a sovereignist list in France.

Aged 50, this former parachute officer is in third place on the “Nous le peuple” list of Georges Kuzmanovic, a former spokesman for Jean-Luc Mélenchon who left La France insoumise in 2018 to found his République souveraine movement. The list will also include Philippe Grégoire, a breeder who is president of “SAMU social agricole”, an association that defends struggling farmers, and writer Olivier Delorme.

“Oppressive European bureaucracy”

Joachim Murat (1767–1815), a descendant of the Marshal of the Empire and King of Naples, is “passionate about France and its social model and can no longer stand the destruction planned by the proponents of federalist Europe.” Joachim Murat was also Napoleon I’s brother-in-law through his marriage to Caroline Bonaparte.

He promises to fight against the “Oppressive European bureaucracy,” the evil that is destroying the European Union, but is stronger than the Russian and Austrian armies at Austerlitz

Joachim Murat, the ancestor, ended badly and was shot by the Bourbons in 1815 at Pizzo. Effectively, he had four sons, some of whom, in turn, had descendants, so the claim is plausible.

“It’s time to give power back to nations and peoples in the face of an oppressive European bureaucracy and a political elite that has betrayed the fundamental principles of democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

The ancestor, Joachim Murat, met a tragic end when he was shot at Pizzo in 1815 by the Bourbons. Effectively, he had four sons, some of whom, in turn, had descendants, so the claim is plausible.

He is not, however, the only descendant of Napoleon, who had only one legitimate son who had no descendants. For example, there is 37-year-old Jean-Christophe Napoleon Bonaparte, a descendant of his brother Jerome.
